Under $30,000 a Year to $116,000 a Year - Ecommerce Business Built On Internet Marketing Advice Many Call Hype - But I Call It Early Retirement


Here is the text of a message I sent to an Email Forum Group in response to an attack post that stated anyone who fell for "internet marketing hype" was just a "dummie mark"

If you have trouble believing that how strongly I believe in this "hyped" up Internet Marketing Advice after reading this, then there isn't much else I can share with you.  No, you are not guaranteed success, but then neither was I.  Many others have built a successful Ecommerce business following this internet marketing advice laid out in the course, but only you know if it will work for you.  No, sorry to disappoint you, it "will not" work for you, it will, however, guide you on the best path for you to build a successful Ecommerce business.  

I want you to note that the post shown below was completely NON-COMMERCIAL and did not give a link to where the readers could get the course - it was written strictly to relate to others of the newsgroup, just how strongly I feel about this course.  I am updating this in June 2009 and I feel even more strongly about what I stated in this post.  I have been retired now over 6 1/2  years and fully believe that I would still be working at a job if I had not discovered this course, it's author and his wonderful Internet Marketing Advice.

I want to add a note here that the original publisher/author of this great course, Corey Rudl, passed away a few years in a tragic accident. When I learned of his accident and passing, the grief I experienced was no less than when I have lost relatives or very close friends. My family and I will always be indebted to Corey for what he shared with me.  Thankfully, Corey mentored another young man who was asked by Corey's wife to take over the business because of the confidence she and Corey had in him. Derek Gehl now runs the company that Corey began in his spare bedroom and he continues to advance knowledge that Corey imparted with him.  Corey helped thousands of people, like myself, realize their dreams by sharing his vast knowledge with them and continues to do so still today.  Thank You Corey!

Thank God for Hype or The Hype Hits the 'Mark'?
You decide on the best title to my personal story.

I was a 'free' subscriber for quite a long period of
time and signed on as a professional member last
month - so in that respect I guess your hype worked
on this 'dummie' mark.

I was enjoying all the banter about hype and the
many comments both for and against but when I
learned that I was actually a dummie mark I decided
to enter the fray as a first time contributor (that is
if dummies can contribute?).

Let me be the first to say, Thank God for the hype
of Corey Rudl! Because this dummie mark fell for
his hype about 3 1/2 years ago when I found
my entry into the world of Internet marketing to be
floundering and not producing but a fraction of the
results I thought it would.

I could write pages but to keep this short enough
for the post let me say that our business was stated
in 1988 as a part time homebased venture dealing
strictly via direct mail and advertising in magazines
and printed publications. Our sales never reached
higher than $30,000 a year.

We made our first incursion onto the Internet in
1998 and after 6 months we felt it was a total waste
of time. Then I applied my dummie mark skills and
took the plunge, I purchased Rudl's Internet marketing
course, read it cover to cover and began working
with my part-time programmer. Never let it be said
that he and I are procrastinators, but it took us until
January 2000 to implement what we learned from
Corey's course.

Immediately upon implementing what I had learned
from the course our traffic doubled (yes, it went from
50 to 100 a day) not much by everyone else's standards
but a definite and positive change. Continuing to
implement what I learned over the following, now almost
2 years our traffic hit a milestone this past July. We had
1,000 "unique" visitors in one day.

Just this past week (Nov. 5-9) we went over 1,200
unique visitors daily. But, let me get to the "bottom"
line. I said earlier how our direct mail and print
advertising never took us beyond $30,000 a year.

By implementing what we learned from the "hyped"
internet marketing course, our 2000 sales reached
$55,000. Our 2001 sales passed the $55,000 mark
in early August and October (a bad month for many
businesses) we achieved a never before $10,000 in
one month and are sitting at $80,000 at the end of
this week.

Now some would say, by quoting our sales figures
we are hyping them, bragging, but to me this is our
measure of success and the only means by which I
can relate just how damn glad I am that I was such
a dummie mark.

I would submit that many people with degree's in
this or that never end up working in their field of
endeavor. They are "hyped" into believing that if
they get that specific degree the world either owes
them a job in that field of endeavor or that the world
will be waiting for them with open arms to work in
that field because they have been a mark to the hype
of the various educational institutions who promote
their organizations over the many others out there.

However, a hyped up college degree from a particular
university, just like a hyped up internet marketing course,
does nothing for an individual who is dummie enough to
believe that by simply purchasing a course or a degree
they are somehow guaranteed success in their chosen
field.

In closing, I apologize for the length of this post, and
would like to finish by saying some may call me a dummie,
some may call me a mark, but I say, call me what you
will but at the end of the year call me a helluva lot
better off than I was two years ago.

Let me finish by adding, as you can see from the date of the email posting above, our sales for October had been our largest month ever.  Well, November was up another 20%, yes, our sales for November were over $12,000.  We finished the year at a little over $98,000 which is almost 4 times what we had in sales just two years before.

SPECIAL UPDATE - January 16th, 2005:

Our annual sales averaged under $30,000 a year for many years prior to 2000 when because of new business to business ecommerce strategies employed in our business the sales reached $55,000.  In 2001 they were approximately $98,000 and have been over $100,000 a year since (2002 - 2003 and 2004).
