This issue will likely be the last one for 2001. I hope that you have found our
information worth your time thus
far and that you have found them to provide you with valuable resources that will help you in your
commercial and personal endeavors.
It is my hope to increase the number of issues in 2002, but it will depend upon you. I would like your feedback as to
whether you have found this and previous issues helpful and what you would like to see us include or remove. Please
contact us and tell
us your thoughts.
I also want to ask for your assistance now and in the future.
In order to keep the issues flowing and make the time spent compiling them worthwhile, we ask that you visit the
sites of the various advertisers and sponsors you will find in our
news issues. Without the revenue generated by these
sponsors and advertisers it will be difficult to continue justifying the time spent preparing
these publications. So
Please check them out, register for their (in most cases) FREE services and if you find out later that you do not need
or want them, you can always unsubscribe with them. That is all the support we ask and we hope you will find the
issues valuable enough to do this small favor for us.
I also want to announce that we will be offering our past, present and future customers some FREE advertising
opportunities in the near future as an ADDED Bonus for using our services. So be sure to read each issue in the
upcoming months for complete details.
In closing my comments, I want to extend my personal wish for you and your families to enjoy the upcoming holidays
and to say that I hope your New Year is filled with health, happiness and prosperity.
Best wishes and Happy Holidays!

The following interview was done in late October 2001 with
Mr. Brian Napoli, President and Owner of Shadigee Company,
which was established in 1991 and which is an export/import
company based in the United States. They help buyers and
sellers both in the United States and other countries to sell
and source products. They specialize in the following areas:
Medical supplies, Consumer goods, and Decorating items
(wallcoverings, upholstery fabric, furniture, and carpeting).
Also, as a service to their clients, they can arrange
all of the services between buyer and seller. This includes
such services as: customs clearance, shipping (air, sea,
land, and express overnight), financing, payment forwarding.
This is for the benefit of their clients in order to make
exporting and importing as easy as possible for them.
Now here is my interview with Brian Napoli:
Is exporting your full time occupation and if so, how
long have you been exporting?
Brian: Yes, exporting is my full-time occupation and
I've been at it now for 10 years starting in 1991.
What type of training did you take, if any?
Brian: I started out through what you would call a self-
learning process. Using books, magazines, newspapers and
government information and several courses through the
local community college courses and their association with
the small business development organization.
I also worked closely with SCORE and the International Trade
offices of the Department of Commerce. But SCORE was the
most beneficial. I've also received a great deal of assistance
from the Canadian government.
Is your company considered an export management company in
that you actually take possession of the goods or are you what
would be called an Export Agent/Broker?
Brian: I would be what you classify as a broker. My best
client is in Singapore and he pays me a commission to
purchase goods for him and arrange for shipment to his
facilities in Singapore.
Brian, the article in Global Business, where we learned about
you, indicated how you put put parties
together and earn a commission on the transaction, like
you just explained to us. Do you have a standard commission
or is each deal you work on a new adventure?
Brian: No, we do not have a "standard" commission rate. The low
end would be 5 to 7 percent and the high end has been 15 to 20
percent. The actual amount changes with each product and
transaction.
Do you have a standard agreement that you use or do you let
that up to the buyer and/or seller?
Brian: We use both a Non-disclosure/Non-circumvention
agreement that I had my attorney draw up, as well as using
the seller's standard agreements.
Do you ever work as a sourcing agent or finder for domestic
USA companies?
Brian: Yes, and the advantage we have in getting
them to use our services is our willingness to take the responsibility for
doing the paperwork and seeing that the goods are moved
from point a to point b.
Do you handle the actual paperwork involved with the exporting
transaction?
Brian: Yes. That is the reason our services command a higher
percentage commission, i.e., the amount of extra service we
provide in arranging shipping, payment, etc. provides us with
a better commission than someone who simply finds a buyer and
a seller and brings them together without involving
themselves in the details of the transaction and shipment
of goods.
Is there any particular products that you try to work with and
those you prefer not working with?
Brian: Yes, we work with medical products and food and are
moving towards more consumer goods. We steer clear of
commodities such as grains, including wheat, corn etc.
because most of those markets are already tied up by
the big guys.
Do you ever get paid by the buyer, rather than the seller?
Brian: Yes. In fact one of my best clients, the company in
Singapore I mentioned earlier is a buyer who pays us a
commission to find them products they are looking for in
the U.S. market.
Have you ever felt that you were ripped off by a seller or a
buyer that you were contracted with?
Brian: No.
Is there a preferred method of payment that you choose to
receive?
Brian: Yes, a wire transfer is best. We steer clear of
getting involved with "selling on consignment" deals.
What are the BEST trade lead boards in your opinion?
Brian: STAT-USA is by far the best. They have improved their
service tremendously over the last few years. Second, I would
say WORLDBID.com and Third would be Alibaba.com. STAT-USA is
a service I pay for, but very much worth the money. Worldbid
has a paid service but I use the free services and do quite
well.
What would you say are the biggest hurdles for someone thinking
about entering the international trade?
Brian: Realizing and learning how to deal with different
cultures and their often different ways of doing trading.
Have the 9/11 attacks on America affected your company?
Brian: Yes. Things had been slowing down due to worldwide
economic conditions and the attacks have slowed things
down even more. But, like all companies, you keep marching
on maintaining old contacts and making new ones for the
future.
What factors or parameters do you review when determining if a
deal is worth your involvement?
Brian: Learn all that you can about the product(s) you are
dealing with.
How long after you put a deal together, do you get paid?
Brian: 30 to 60 days is the average.
What freight forwarders do you use and do you have
a source or directory you recommend to locate a good
forwarder?
Brian: A.N.Deringer and K-Line. The directory I use is
published annually in WORLD TRADE Magazine. It lists
the best freight forwarders, customs brokers, along with
other service providers.
Do you perform any research on a company before you decide to
work with them on a deal? If so, what type of research?
Brian: Yes I do. I often use Dun and Bradstreet, Hoover's
and other similar services found in other countries. There is
also a service the International Trade Administration offers
for approximately $100.00.
Do you feel the type of company you operate can be operated
from any location in the world?
Brian: Absolutely. Give me a phone, fax, directory and
computer and I'm in international trade.
What is an average year's income for someone who operates
the type of international trade company that you do, i.e., providing the 'extra'
level of services that you do?
Brian: Average income: $100,000+. Do not expect to make
this in your first years. You must establish yourself with
customers and suppliers.
If you are a company that would like to Import or Export
and would like to employ a very knowledgeable and competent
exporting agent or sourcing agent, please send Brian an
Email, call him or fax him your proposal. Here is his
contact information and some background information about
his company:

FINDER'S FEES - THE EASIEST GLOBAL PROFITS YOU CAN EARN
How would you like to earn $75,000 per month for 5 years?
One Finder did. He saw an item in an advertisement offering
10,000 barrels of Crude Oil per day for 5 years. Putting
that seller together with a buyer at a small refinery, he
earned a fee of only 25¢ per barrel, and collected his fee
of $75,000 every month for 5 years.
One of the Richest Men in the World started his
career as a finder and, even today, earns millions of
dollars each year in finder's fees. -- Does the name Adnan
Kashogi ring any bells? Find out how they did it, at:

2. SELF INFLICTED TROUBLE
From Bob Osgoodby's Free Ezine "Tip of the Day"
The top three things that will get you in trouble on your
computer are:
A. Failing to install anti-virus, keep its signatures up to
date, and apply it to all files. A friend of mine was having
problems with his computer, so I loaned him my anti-virus CD.
He found 12 viruses, but even though it ran a bit better, it
wasn't up to par. He couldn't download the latest virus
definitions because he hadn't purchased the program. He
immediately joined, downloaded the latest definitions and
found another 14. His system is now running properly.
B. Opening unsolicited e-mail attachments without verifying
their source and checking their content first, or executing
games or screen savers or other programs from untrusted
sources. How many times do you have to hear this before
you believe it. You can open text files or images, but I
recommend you open nothing else.
C. Failing to install security patches-especially for Microsoft
Office, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Netscape. This
should be done on a regular basis - go to :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/default.htm and click on
"Product Updates".
Free Virus Detection Software
I get several viruses sent to me every single day. If you are
active on the web, you are getting them sent to you as well. If
you have virus protection software, you are protected from most.
However, don't open an attachment, even from someone you know,
unless you expect it, as they may be infected and not know it.
Text files (.txt) and image files (.gif, .jpg, etc) are safe
to open. You should never open an .exe or .doc file unless
you specifically requested it.
You can get Free Virus Detection Software at:
http://www.grisoft.com
If you already have this type of software, check for updates to
get the latest program virus databases or program updates, and
do this on a regular basis.
If you are using "Outlook Express" check for updates at:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com . The updates from Microsoft
are not protection enough, but are a good first step. "Outlook
Express" does have a flaw that allows a virus to infect your
system even if you don't open an attachment. The updates
protect you from this.
Seriously, with all the viruses being sent out, you really
should take steps to protect yourself.

SPECIAL ADDITION TO THE ABOVE ARTICLE:
Here are some additional Security Suggestions you should
consider for your computer system, ONCE you have made

You should test how secure your computer is from hackers,
by using the free service, Shields Up at: https://grc.com
If you find that your system is at risk, there is a good
way to protect it. Install Zone Alarm. It's another
very valuable FREE resource.

good parameter to measure the viability of a project as being a good

3. 5 SELLING TIPS -- TO INCREASE YOUR SALES
Copyright 2001 By Bob Leduc
Here are 5 selling tips to help you increase your sales.
All 5 work for any business. They're effective for both
online and traditional offline marketing. And they won't
cost you anything to implement.
1. PROMOTE ONE THING AT A TIME
Promote only 1 product or service at a time. It limits your
prospect's buying decision to either "yes" or "no". Every
"yes" answer produces an immediate sale.
Avoid promotions requiring prospects to make more choices
after making the decision to buy. Some won't be able to
make a clear choice. They'll avoid the risk of making a
wrong choice by making NO choice -- and you lose the sale
you already had.
You can develop separate promotions for each product or
service you sell. Or you can combine several products and
services into one package for one price. But always make
your prospective customer's buying decision a simple "yes"
or "no". It produces the maximum number of sales.
2. LEAD WITH YOUR BIGGEST BENEFIT
What's the biggest benefit you offer to customers? That
benefit is your strongest selling appeal. Use it to attract
prospects to your promotional message.
State your biggest benefit in the headline of your ads. Put
it in the first sentence of your sales letters. Include it
in a title at the top of your web page. Use it as the
opening of your audio or audio-video promotions. Leading
immediately with your biggest benefit captures your
prospect's attention and provides a compelling reason to
continue reading or listening to your message.
3. PERSONALIZE YOUR APPROACH
More people will buy from you when they feel you are
talking directly to them about their individual needs.
Develop customized versions of your sales message to cater
to the specific interests of prospects in each market you
target. Use the language and style of prospects in each
market to communicate your message to them.
It's easy to use different versions of your sales message
when you control who gets it. But how can you personalize
your web site to appeal to prospects in one market without
losing your appeal to other prospects visiting your site?
One way is to create special web pages for prospects in
each market you target. Customize the content of each to
appeal to prospects in that group. Then add a link to each
of these special pages on your home page.
4. PROVIDE SPECIFICS
Marketers often describe their product or service with
words like, "It's fast, easy and inexpensive". But a
specific description of how fast, how easy and how
inexpensive will generate more sales.
For example, a general statement like, "Our clients get
more sales", is dull. It won't produce sales. Replace it
with a specific statement like, "Most of our new clients
enjoy at least a 17 percent sales increase in the first
month". This statement creates excitement. It motivates
prospects to sign up now so they can start enjoying that 17
percent increase in THEIR sales.
5. DRAMATIZE FEELINGS
Customers usually buy on impulse, not logic. They base
their buying decision on how they feel about your product
or service. Get them excited about using your product or
service and you'll increase your sales.
Revise your ads, sales letters and web pages to dramatize
the emotional rewards your customer will experience when
using your product or service. Use vivid word pictures to
help them imagine themselves already enjoying those
benefits. For example, a financial planner could describe
what it feels like to enjoy an affluent lifestyle without
debt.
Each of these 5 selling tips will help you increase your
sales. They produce immediate results. And they won't cost
you anything to implement.
